Jerry R. Goodman
Mr. Goodman retired in 2015, after a rewarding career
of 53 and 1/2 years working on space related programs for NASA
Johnson Space Center. Mr. Goodman made significant contributions in
four basic areas of Human Spaceflight: (1) Apollo Space Suit where he
headed Apollo Suit development; (2) Systems engineering and
integration efforts on the crew compartment design of the Apollo
Command Module, Lunar Module, and Space Shuttle Orbiter; (3) Project
engineer on EVA provisions, Apollo Command Module, Lunar Module,
and Space Shuttle Orbiter; and (4) Acoustics for Space Shuttle Orbiter
and International Space Station (ISS), where he served as head of
Acoustics Working Groups in both programs, established an Acoustics
office to oversee ISS acoustics and served as ISS Acoustics Lead working
with U.S. hardware and International Partners.
Mr. Goodman received his BSME from Purdue University and Masters in
Human Factors from the University of Illinois. He released his thesis on
Apollo crew compartment efforts as a NASA document. He was an
Adjunct Professor at the University of Houston-Clear Lake teaching a
graduate level systems engineering course. Mr. Goodman was the
principal author of the book “Acoustics and Noise Control in Space Crew
Compartments,” and published thirteen Book Chapters in four scientific
books: “Space Safety and Human Performance,” “Acoustics and Noise
Control in Space Crew Compartments,” “Fundamentals of Aerospace
Medicine,” “Principles of Safety Design for Space Systems.” In addition,
Mr. Goodman contributed to a multitude of conference papers, reports
and presentations. He worked on a manuscript on NASA “lessons
learned” in acoustics, EVA, and other subjects. He is a recipient of
numerous NASA awards and is an Associate Fellow of the AIAA.
